Professional Learning Philosophy
I believe the best professional learning starts with the people in the room. My goal is to create learning experiences that are relevant to participants’ needs, grounded in their experiences, and connected to the realities of their classrooms. I believe in building community and trust by honoring the knowledge and expertise that every participant brings to the room.
As a facilitator, I strive to model the instructional practices and concepts I am asking educators to explore. Rather than simply telling participants what effective practice looks like, I want them to experience it. I design engaging sessions that provide opportunities to collaborate, discuss, question, create, and learn from one another. Reflection is woven throughout the learning experience so participants have opportunities to make connections, consider how new ideas align with their practice, and identify meaningful next steps.
Ultimately, I see professional learning as a collaborative process rather than a one-way transfer of information. My role is to create the conditions for educators to take risks, share ideas, reflect honestly, and grow. I believe meaningful feedback is an essential part of that process, and I use participant feedback to continually refine my practice and ensure that the learning experience is purposeful, relevant, and valuable.
As a mathematics educator and professional learning specialist, I work alongside teachers to make mathematics teaching more engaging, meaningful, and accessible for all students. My experience as a Math Teacher Leader in Residence with Open Up Resources has given me the opportunity to facilitate professional learning with educators across the country, collaborate with teachers around curriculum and instructional practice, and learn from the diverse experiences of mathematics classrooms.
In my current role as a seasonal Math Professional Learning Specialist at Amplify, I deliver professional learning focused on Amplify Desmos Math HS, helping educators connect curriculum, pedagogy, and technology to create powerful learning experiences for students. Across both roles, I strive to make professional learning relevant to teachers’ needs, honor their existing expertise, and create opportunities for collaboration, reflection, and meaningful practice. My goal is for educators to leave each session with new ideas, practical strategies, and the confidence to bring those ideas into their classrooms.
